Amanda Haines - My Introduction

Updated: Feb 16

Here we are, at the beginning of my ToBePT journey. Being the newest member to the team I thought I would take the time to introduce myself. But first, we must go back, to see where this all began...

It was my last year of high school and at the time I was living in the United States. A game of basketball, I won the tip off, the ball was in our possession, the clock began the count down and then pain, so much pain. Later I found out that I had completely torn out my ACL, a partial tear in my MCL, a sprain in the LCL, and something to my lateral meniscus. Yuck. It sounded scientific, all I knew was that my knee hurt. Before then, I had been an active kid, always outside, running around and playing whatever sport was happening in the school yard (this became more and more competitive as my sporting years went on). However, this injury changed my perspective on the body and exercise. I became curious about muscles, movement patterns and exercise. This sparked an interest in my chosen degree. I completed a Bachelor of Health Science at Massey University majoring in Psychology and then a Certificate in Personal Training. Light bulb moment; why not work in a field that coincides with my passion?! My first personal training job was in a gym and I enjoyed the challenge. I loved working out and I loved sharing my knowledge with others. I thrived on meeting people from all different walks of life, with different abilities and all at very different stages of their lives. I became passionate about helping others reach their potential and eliminate their 'impossible' with hard work and dedication. After seeing some awesome results, I wanted to see more of the world to build up my personal character and help me build relationships with people from all over the globe. So off I went jet setting across Europe exploring the deep dark parts of history, the incredible architecture, the typical touristy hot spots. But the best part was by far the people I met! It’s amazing when you are pushed out of your comfort zone; all of a sudden you are in a world of possibilities.

As one door closes, another one opens. I decided it was time to come back home, to our beautiful country and help bring fitness and enjoyment back into the lives of Cantabrians. I decided to get back into the fitness industry to push people out of their comfort zones and into a fitter and healthier lifestyle. I’m excited to be part of To Be Personal Training. I live by the philosophy “If it doesn’t challenge you, it won’t change you”! I expect to grow and develop on a professional and personal level over the next few years and I am excited you all get to be part of my journey! I look forward to meeting you all soon!

Amanda.
